Abstract

This paper investigates the employability and employability skills of graduates from the local universities. For the study, an analytical framework was developed based on the determinants identified from the review of literature. Considering the vast number of graduates passing out from the local universities, the investigation is confined to employability and employability skills of IT graduates passed out from the local universities. Data was collected using survey questionnaires. A stratified random sample of IT graduates passed out from the local universities and employers of the IT industry who have employed local IT graduates responded to the questionnaires. The findings of the investigation led to conclude that though there are employability skill deficiencies in the IT graduates, IT being a booming industry in Sri Lanka, there is no major employability problem for the time being for the IT graduates passed out from the local universities.
