TRANSITION OF JAPANESE CORPORATE CULTURE UNDER CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PRACTICES

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the current development in CSR in the Japanese firms and some negative impacts and institutional defects which occurred in the early phase of CSR and SRI in Japan. This study will first introduce the Japanese unique background of corporate value which might hinder the introduction of CSR and SRI to Japan. Then, the recent development on CSR in the Japanese firms is discussed. Finally, the paper points out some negative impacts caused during the current transitional period. This Japanese case, as an example of late comer of introducing CSR in developed countries, might contribute to other countries under transitional phase of CSR.
