About the Journal

The discourse on gender has garnered considerable attention in recent times, with scholars from various disciplines focusing on this topic within the context of their respective research areas. Reflecting this academic interest, the Equal Opportunity Cell of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura has launched an electronic journal on gender studies, titled ‘Pumithiri’ in 2021. This journal serves as a platform for disseminating scholarly articles authored by academics, researchers, and interest groups dedicated to gender studies.

On the success of 'Pumithiri' was dealt with for its publication as a bi-annual peer-reviewed journal from the year 2023 under the name of 'Pumithiri' e-Journal of Gender Studies. The inaugural volume was published on March 8, International Women's Day, followed by the second volume on November 19, International Men's Day, starting from 2023.

This journal invites students and academics to contribute original research, offering a significant venue for discussing gender-related studies across various disciplines, including economics, politics, management, art, and literature etc.

The ‘Pumithiri’ e-Journal of Gender Studies holds a distinguished position as the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, dedicated to exploring matters related to gender studies. By providing a scholarly forum for interdisciplinary dialogue, the journal aims to advance understanding and promote critical engagement with gender issues within the academic community and beyond.
