IMPACT OF WORKER ABSENTEEISM ON PRODUCTIVITY; EVIDENCE FROM SRI LANKAN GARMENT WORKERS

Abstract

Worker Absenteeism is a significant factor which decreases a significant amount of work time of worker or productivity of an organization. That has an impact on the production productivity because that declines continuity of production chain. A systematic attempt was made to investigate the impact of worker absenteeism on productivity.The analysis provides a number of results concerning the impact of social insurance benefits. As an example higher none employment benefits (leisure time) are shown to increase absenteeism among employed workers. However, to indicate impact of Productivity I also substituted temporary Garment Workers for Permanent Workers. Their expected Average Productivity is on decline. While illness is a major cause of absenteeism among Garment Workers being a responsible member of the family is another cause of worker absenteeism.
