Abstract

A simple numerical technique that permits the determination of themagnetization of a two dimentional body, producing a magnetic anomalyas well as a gravity anomaly, is presented. This technique involves the comparisonof the Fourier transform of the magnetic anomaly, computed startingfrom the gravity anomaly using the Poisson relationship, with the Fouriertransform of the observed magnetic anomaly and can easily be extended tothe three dimensional case (to determine the direction of magnetization only)As most of the magnetized basic rocks that produce magnetic anomalies alsoproduce gravity anomalies, the present technique has useful practicalapplications in the interpretation of magnetic anomalies.
